Practice History

Chapel Hill Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine was founded in 2002 by Dr. Andrew R. Jones. The name was offered to him by Dr. Edwin Preston, who many patients will remember as operating Chapel Hill Orthopedics after his departure from UNC and until he relocated to Durham Orthopedic Surgery, which later merged with Triangle Orthopedics. Dr. Jones was joined by Dr. Paul Lachiewicz, who relocated from UNC in 2009.

The practice is nestled in an enclave of doctors near University Mall, and has from the beginning shared office space and staff with other doctors.  He assumed the space of  Dr. Stephen Grubb, of the North Carolina Spine Center, who was moving his practice to the mountains of Virginia. Dr. Suh has seen spine patients in the office continuously since the early 1990s, and recently affiliated with Orthopedic

Specialists of North Carolina, a Wake Forest based practice. Dr. Ingrid Luo-Tseng, a physiatrist with that group, and Dr. Charles Goodno, an occupational medicine specialist, also see patients at our site. Many of these collegial relationships are longstanding; most are from work with UNC Health Care. Dr. Jones and Dr. Lachiewicz have been friends since the late 70’s when they met during residency service at the University of Minnesota Hospitals.

Chapel Hill Orthopedics continues to be passionate about patient care and is committed to maintain high quality care as our top priority. We listen to your concerns to arrive at the correct diagnosis, consider your individual needs in developing a treatment plan, and answer your questions. Our physicians will recommend a course of treatment that manages even longstanding and complex orthopedic problems.

We are grateful to our skilled and caring staff and  to our wonderful patients for the success of our orthopedic practice. We welcome you as a new or returning patient.
